In a post on her X account on Sunday, Principal Secretary for the State Department for the Blue Economy and Fisheries, Betsy Njagi, who represented Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho at the event, said the MoU marks a significant milestone in deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

“We also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance sustainable fisheries, renewable energy solutions for aquaculture, and research collaboration in the Blue Economy,” Njagi stated.

Speaking at the launch, Njagi described the partnership as a reflection of Kenya and Italy’s shared commitment to sustainable development and innovation, particularly in sectors critical to food security, job creation, and climate resilience.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and strengthening international cooperation for the benefit of our communities and future generations,” she said.

According to Njagi, the MoU will prioritize advancing sustainable fisheries management, promoting renewable energy solutions to support aquaculture, and enhancing research collaboration within the blue economy sector.

She noted that the areas of cooperation align with Kenya’s broader strategy to unlock the economic potential of its marine and aquatic resources while ensuring environmental sustainability.
